I like to deep clean before ringing in a new year. Do you deep clean right after Christmas? It’s always nice to get things back in good order after the chaos of the holiday season.
I like to do a deep clean before the really bad part of winter begins. I’ve written before how the winds on the farm can reach 50-60 mph and snow can pile so high that one can become snow-bound for days on end. It’s always nice to have a clean house when you are going to spend more time inside.
Homemade With Tide and Dawn Platinum Power
I have used every possible carpet cleaning apparatus and cleaner ever invented. The most effective carpet and upholstery cleaner and method I have found for spots is a homemade concoction that uses Dawn Platinum, Tide mixed with distilled water and a white scrub brush.
There are a few techniques to use with this homemade cleaner.
- Use a white bristled scrub brush and another spray bottle of HOT water to help move the dirt out.
- LIGHTLY spray the dirty carpet and upholstery area with cleaner, and follow it with a light spray of hot water.
- Scrub with a white bristle scrub brush and then wipe up with a white cloth or paper towels.
- Be prepared to be amazed! Another amazing item are continuous spray bottles you can get at Walmart for an amazing price of two for under eight dollars! I have several sets that I use for all sorts of cleaning tasks! Here’s a link!
Another Helpful Cleaning Tip!
Since I’m discussing cleaning carpet, here’s another handy tip. It is difficult to get the inside edges of carpeted steps vacuumed well. I have an old-fashioned corn whisk broom that gets that impossible to get out dust and debris out of those areas. This also works well on baseboards. Try to find a broom that has stiff bristles. Of course I’ve included a link.
Just whisk hard and you will see the dust fly! You will look at your vacuum cleaner and wonder if it really does a good job after you see the debris pile.
Sometime I’ll tell you about the time I power-washed my area rugs outside and got them super-clean. (Of course it involved five gallon buckets of water with Dawn Platinum.)
Be Blessed!
